A Falling Star (February 467AV)

Chilali had been sent to fetch some meat for the stew. It was getting dark and the cold snows blew around her feet. She approached the great tree where they hung their meat, keeping it well above the ground and clear of most animals, and began to climb. It took some time and Chilali’s fingers were cold and sore, but she had done this many times before. Only slightly out of breath she cleared the canopy of the great forest around her. No matter how many times she had been here and seen the majestic view across the snow covered trees of the Ghosts, she still paused to take it in. And that was when she saw the star. A shooting star was streaking across the sky, getting bigger and brighter as it passed overhead. It was the biggest and the brightest one Chilali had ever seen. She waited, wanting to see it all the way through until it had passed by. But it didn’t pass through the sky above. With a gust of air that rocked the great tree she clung to, it roared overhead and came crashing down into the forest several miles from their home. She clung desperately to her tree until it stopped moving. She grabbed the meat and descended as quickly as she could, running to the house crying out for her parents. They were already outside, staring in the direction the star had fallen. An ominous glow lit the forest and confused shouts could be heard from neighbours. A star had fallen
